Are My Vitamin Supplements Really Helping Me?
Years ago during my wholehearted research and exploration of health and wellness I uncovered a pattern. After a period of time the vitamin supplements I was taking no longer seemed to benefit me. Whether it was super greens, herbs or homeopathic remedies, the beneficial effects seem to disappear.
This had nothing to do with commitment, discipline or dedication, as you will see below. I simply felt my regimen was no longer effective. Perhaps this has something to do with my body’s ability to utilize and absorb certain nutrients. At one point in my journey I was taking highly concentrated frozen super “uber” greens delivered right to my door in ice packs and…. an elite patented, stack of amino acids to release growth hormone (anti-aging).
I was feeling boundless energy during the day and deep baby sleep at night. The only downside was dealing with the frozen greens. Just when I thought I had discovered the supreme combination for myself, I stopped taking both supplements. After nearly one year the benefits switch turned off. I do keep the patented amino acid formula on hand for sports endurance.
My experience with alternative and complementary medicines were similar to that of vitamin supplementation and diet. Whether it be acupuncture, chiropractic or various types of body work, I would clearly “hit a ceiling” when I instinctively knew I had gained the maximum benefit and it was time to move on.
It can be discouraging to experience health benefits and healing for a time and then seemingly stop getting the same results you once did. Rather than be disappointed, this may be a clue that your body has done everything it possibly can with your present health regime. It is very likely that you have made progress with your health and healing regimen, and you can be reassured that your body’s innate intelligence will lead you to the next step, as needed.
Progressive levels of health and wellness can be achieved by allowing your body’s innate intelligence to be your guide. Whatever regimen you are currently employing: vitamin supplementation, nutrition, diet, or holistic methods, this will set the stage for the next level of health. In some cases imbalances in the body can prevent proper absorption and utilization of vitamins and nutrients.
The body’s unique intelligence is always at work seeking a state of harmony. You may be drawn to certain foods for a month; this is your body’s way of signaling that for any number of reasons you have a particular nutritional need at this time.
Your body organism is changing every moment and the vitamin supplements and nutrition you take in will vary from time to time. The field of health and wellness has come a long way since I first began my exploration and you can be overwhelmed with countless products and choices for vitamins.
The technological and scientific advances in testing are mapping out our unique nutritional and hormonal needs. The genomic sciences have ushered in a whole new way of how we choose preventative health products.
This of course does not take into consideration your lifestyle, but DNA assessments can map out your predisposition for certain diseases. The scientific breakthroughs are pointing us to genes and lifestyle, and the good news is we can now do something about both. Due to scientific research we see the Biggest Trends in vitamins are those supplements that target:
* Bone and Joint health
* Cardiovascular health
* Neurological health
* Immune System
* Energy and Vitality
* Anti-Aging and skin products
* Insomnia and stress
* Sexual function
While science continues to make new breakthroughs, your body will continue to use it’s own innate intelligence to heal itself. Modify your health regimen in order to reach your desired goals, avoid staying with one approach if you are not reaching your desired outcome. The core of “complementary” medicine is to supply what is lacking in order to complete it. I highly recommend adopting the “complementary” approach so that you can avoid getting stuck in a rut or find yourself chasing one regimen or product after another.
